Unlike weight-loss surgery (e.g., gastric bypass), the CoolSculpting® procedure is not a weight-loss solution. Good candidates for the CoolSculpting® procedure have noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to get rid of, despite diet and exercise. CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.

The CoolSculpting® procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting® procedure if you suffer certain conditions including, but not limited to, cryoglobulinaemia (a blood protein disease), cold agglutinin disease (a rare anaemic autoimmune disease) or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria (a rare autoimmune disease).

CoolSculpting® systems are controlled cooling devices designed with built-in safety measures, designed to automatically stop treatment if it detects the treated area is getting too cold. The Freeze Detect® system is composed of several features, including thermal sensors and proprietary algorithmic software. Freeze Detect® is an integral part of the CoolSculpting® System and is automatically deployed when a treatment is initiated. When the Freeze Detect® system detects a possible freeze condition, it stops the treatment.
As the cooling begins during the first few minutes you typically feel intense cold. This should soon subside as the treated area numbs. With some applicators, you’ll feel some pulling as suction is applied.
After the treatment, you may feel some tingling. The area is then massaged for approximately 2 minutes to break up the crystallised fat cells. Patients are usually able to return to normal activities following their appointment.

During your initial consultation, your medical practitioner will ask about your medical history to establish if CoolSculpting® could be right for you. It's important to tell them if you have any past or present medical conditions, diseases including auto-immune, planning or already pregnant, etc., as you may not be able to have the CoolSculpting® procedure if you are pregnant or have certain medical conditions.

The length of your CoolSculpting® treatment will vary depending on the number of areas being treated during one visit. The latest technology of CoolSculpting® can treat a patient within 35-75 minutes depending on the applicators used. If you have limited time but have several areas of unwanted fat, some clinics may even have multiple CoolSculpting® systems. The medical practitioner will explain the process and establish if this is a suitable option for you. You and your medical practitioner may also schedule additional treatments or office visits in order to meet your goals.
During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations may subside as the area becomes numb. Following the procedure, side effects include redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, skin sensitivity and numbness. Numbness can persist for up to several weeks. A sensation of fullness in the back of the throat may occur after submental treatment. Rare side effects such as paradoxical hyperplasia, late-onset pain, severe pain, freeze burn, vasovagal symptoms, subcutaneous induration, hyperpigmentation and hernia may also occur. As with any medical procedure, ask your medical practitioner if the CoolSculpting® procedure is right for you.
The CoolSculpting® procedure is non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities almost immediately. Often, patients return to work directly after their CoolSculpting® treatment, this will vary between people and may be dependent on treatment area.

Most patients may start to see results at 6 weeks with final results around 12 weeks following treatment. Your body will still continue to remove the destroyed fat cells for up to 3 months after treatment.
